Travel to ASSC9

Airports

The Greater Los Angeles area includes five major airports: Los Angeles International (LAX), Bob Hope Airport (BUR) (formerly Burbank/Glendale/Pasadena), Long Beach (LGB), Ontario (ONT), and Orange County John Wayne International (SNA). Pasadena is accessible by freeway from any of these airports; the most convenient is Bob Hope (Burbank), just 20 minutes away.

Travel from Airports

By Car

From Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). By car (45 minutes-1 hour), travel east on Century Blvd. to the San Diego Freeway (405). Go north on the 405 to the Santa Monica Freeway (10). Proceed east on the 10 to the Harbor/Pasadena Freeway (110). Go north on the 110 until it ends on Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena. Continue north on Arroyo Parkway to California Blvd. Turn right onto California Blvd. and proceed to Caltech.

By SuperShuttle

SuperShuttle is one of several van services that offers cheap door-to-door service from all the regional airports, and has several drop-off stops at campus. SuperShuttle has designated pickup points at all airports. Upon landing find the local SuperShuttle dispatcher and let them know you want a shuttle for Pasadena (located in the San Gabriel Valley).

Campus SuperShuttle stops:

By Taxi

Taxi travel in Los Angeles is extremely expensive and is not recommended for travel from any of the regional airports to Pasadena. A cab from Old Town Pasadena to Caltech will cost approximately $5-$7.

By Public Transport

Travel by public transport in Los Angeles is often slow and inconvenient. As with taxis it is not recommended for travel between any of the regional airports and Pasadena. However, there are cheap (in some cases free) public transport options between Old Town Pasadena (where many of the hotels are situated) and Caltech. Information on these options can be found on the City of Pasadena website http://www.cityofpasadena.net/trans/transit/.

Parking on Campus

Caltech has limited parking located all around the perimeter. There is no fee parking anywhere on campus. Caltech has lifted parking restrictions during the meeting so you do NOT need to obtain a visitorŐs permit during the course of the meeting (i.e., June 24th - 27th).

You CANNOT park in name-assigned spaces or in designated (orange) carpool spaces. The campus map indicates the location of the Beckmann Institute, and parking areas. Street parking is generally limited to 1 or 2 hours during the day. The limits are enforced and you will be ticketed or towed away.

All questions about registration should be directed to the official conference email address: assc9@klab.caltech.edu.
