The tenth annual meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness will be held from June 23rd to June 26th, 2006, at St. Anne's College, Oxford.

Accommodation

We have arranged for a limited number of ensuite rooms to be made available to conference participants within St. Anne's college itself. The rooms are all ensuite with coffee making facilities and ethernet, are very comfortable and obviously extremely convenient for the conference itself, the opening reception, and all the evening events throughout the conference. The cost will be very reasonable (cheaper than comparable hotel accomodation) and will include breakfast in college. Rooms will be availble for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights inclusive with checkout on the final day of the conference.

Conference participants are urged to book this accommodation early as it is limited by the number of rooms in college and is likely to sell out quickly! College rooms will be bookable during the registration process, which will launch in early February

Venues

For the conference itself, we will be using the small lecture theatres and seminar rooms at St. Anne's, together with the larger lecture theatres at the modern Martin Wood complex, which is a five minute walk away from St. Anne's. The registration fee will include coffee, buffet lunch at St. Anne's and afternoon tea making it particularly good value as well as promoting interaction among conference participants. Wireless internet access will be available at the Martin Wood venue.

Conference dinner

A gala dinner (champagne reception, 3 course dinner and coffee) will be held in St. Anne's College on the evening of Sunday 25th June. This will be a highlight of the conference and St. Anne's is renowned for its excellent catering. Tickets for the conference dinner will be on sale at cost price or below with registration. A vegetarian option will be available.

Opening reception

The Presidential and William James lectures that open the conference on the Friday evening will be held in the stunning and historic surroundings of the University Museum for Natural History, a five minute walk away from St. Anne's College. Oxford University Museum of Natural History was built between 1855 and 1860 to accommodate the teachings of science in Oxford University, and to bring together all “the materials explanatory of the organic beings being placed upon the globe”. It is a Grade I listed building built in the Venetian Gothic style, and it is widely regarded as a major achievement of Victorian architecture. Ruskin and Acland were both influential and instrumental in its creation. It presently houses the natural history collections of the University, of which a representative selection is displayed in the central court and galleries. The general grandeur of the Museum and the exquisite detail of its carvings and ironwork make it a unique venue for a conference or a reception.
